The Project

This Southeast Michigan backyard had plenty of usable space, but the homeowners wanted something more intentional than a basic patio setup.

They envisioned a backyard that felt comfortable for everyday use while also functioning as a true entertainment space for hosting family and friends throughout the season.

GLC Landscaping & Pools designed and built a complete outdoor living area centered around a custom wood pergola, expansive paver patio, built-in outdoor kitchen, and multiple seating zones that work together as one connected backyard experience.

The pergola creates structure and shade across the main patio while helping define the outdoor dining and lounge areas without making the space feel enclosed. Beneath it, large-format pavers establish a clean foundation for gathering, entertaining, and relaxing outdoors.

A built-in outdoor kitchen with stone veneer detailing anchors the entertainment area and provides a dedicated space for cooking and serving without separating the host from guests. Nearby seating walls introduce additional functionality while helping organize circulation throughout the patio.

Landscape beds and foundation plantings soften the hardscape edges and connect the new construction naturally back into the property.

The finished backyard now feels like an extension of the home itself. Organized, welcoming, and built around how the homeowners actually live outside.

Like every GLC project, the transformation started with a clear design plan and a carefully managed construction process.

The team evaluated the backyard layout, traffic flow from the home, sun exposure, entertainment needs, and how to create distinct gathering areas while keeping the overall space cohesive and open.

Special attention was given to integrating the pergola, outdoor kitchen, hardscape elevations, and planting layout so every element felt balanced and intentionally connected.

Once the design and scope were finalized, GLC’s in-house team handled every phase of installation, including patio construction, pergola installation, outdoor kitchen construction, wall detailing, planting installation, and finishing work.
