The Project

This Southeast Michigan backyard already had a fiberglass pool in place, but the surrounding yard was left unfinished and difficult to use after the pool installation.

The homeowners needed a team that could step in with a clear plan for water mitigation, stonework, landscaping, and finishing details. GLC Landscaping & Pools worked alongside local landscape designer Heather Lakatosh of Garden Artistry to help bring the design together and execute the surrounding outdoor living environment.

GLC completed the surrounding outdoor environment, creating a backyard that feels organized, usable, and intentionally connected from one area to the next. The team addressed the site conditions around the pool, improved the transition between the lawn and hardscape areas, and installed the stonework and landscape features needed to bring the space together.

An expansive Unilock Beacon Hill gray paver patio now surrounds the pool area and gives the backyard room to breathe. A built-in outdoor fireplace with a stone surround anchors one end of the patio, creating a defined gathering area separate from the water. Adirondack seating around the fireplace and stepping stone walkways integrated into the lawn help connect the pool, patio, and lounge areas naturally.

A row of tall arborvitae lines the back fence to provide natural privacy screening while softening the perimeter. Landscape beds with white flowering shrubs add color and definition along the edges, and the white vinyl fence gives the full yard a clean, finished boundary.

The finished backyard now offers two distinct places to spend time outside: one centered on the water and one centered on the fire. With the drainage, stonework, landscaping, and finishing details handled, the space finally feels complete.
